Duties of the Volunteer Positions

This page describes in detail what each volunteer position does within the club. All positions help the kids in some way. Some are busy and involved and others only require a few hours of time. All of them are important though and your help is greatly needed and appreciated.

Fruit Sale
Duties include:  preparation of the brochures and money envelopes (September), launching the sale during band at both the Freshman school and Main Campus (October), organizing money collection and ordering from Peejays (November), and organizing pick-up and delivery (early December).  The busiest times for this job are after the sale when the orders need to be tallied, money counted, and pick up & delivery of the fruit.

Fund Admin. Co-ord. Manage and coordinate fundraising opportunities for the band, both
 directly and indirectly.
Job is sporadic in time requirement, perhaps as little as 1 or 2 hours/week up to 7 or 8  hours/week during a big sale period. 
Communications  
Uniforms A year long commitment for all the uniforms for all the bands. If you are interested we can email you a list of everything this position involves.
Color / Winter Guard  

Volunteers

Webmaster Run website. Volunteers needed to help gather information, verify accuracy, and provide stories and pictures describing what each band is doing.

LEUN Editor Newsletter Editor, solicit material, meet publishing deadlines
Band Camp Coordinator  
Bus Chaperones Few hours to the entire week depending on the trip.
Band Nurse

 

3rd Qtr. Refreshmts Coordinate volunteers and refreshments for Marching Band at home football games.
Video 3-5 hours per event taking pictures or running video cameras. Contact Mike Dawson.
Pit Crew Chief  
Senior Night Junior Rep  
Senior Night Soph. Rep All senior band members are recognized at a Oct.football game and this chairman works with the current chairman to organize that evening.
Split the Pot Sell tickets during the 1st half of the 5 home football games. 2-3 hr per game – can work  1 game or all 5 or anywhere in between. Looking for a “shadow” this year to take over in 2012. 
Cookie Dough Duties are about the same as the Fruit Sale chairman.
Fruit Sale The Fruit Sale Coordinator and the Cookie Dough Coordinator work closely together since the sales run at the same time.  The sale usually runs from early October to early November. (see duties page)
Spirit Wear Coordinate spirit wear, sell at football games, Band concerts, various school events.
Meijer/Kroger Cards Distribute the cards to Band families and others.

Swing Dance

(January Fundraiser) Need a chairman “shadow” for the 2012 dance to take over 2013.

  • Work at the dance – just that evening – 2 hr a shift
  • Refreshment chairman for the dance – 1-2 meetings prior to the dance and responsible for coordinating refreshments and helping setting up refreshment area the day of the dance and being there all evening.  
  • Worker coordinator – in charge of scheduling all workers needed for the dance. Most of the work can be done via internet and email. 1-2 meetings with rest of committee. Coordinate workers the night of the dance.  
  • Basket Raffle Co-Chairman – Coordinate donations to put into “baskets” for raffle held at the dance. 1-2 meetings prior to dance.  Time collecting items and contacting former donors to ask if they’ll donate items, putting baskets together.   
  • Decorations chairman – coordinate and decorate cafeteria for dance.  1-2 meetings prior to the dance. Available during the day of the dance to decorate and available to take down decorations at the end of the dance.  
  • Coat check chairman – organize coat check area and workers for the evening.
Patron Program Ask for donations from band parents, others, list patrons in concert programs

Tag Day One day event – Sat. after Labor Day. Band and guard students go door to door in neighborhoods asking for money. In need of a chairman who coordinates drivers and students.

  • Tag Day – Sat. after Labor Day drivers and money counters  -  approx. 4 hours .
