New Band Pathway
Kyle Vanden Eynden created a pathway for the Lakota East Bands as part of his Eagle Project. The following text is from Kyle and pictures will soon follow.
Just after school let out for me in early June I, Kyle Vanden Eynden, quickly went to work for the Lakota East Band Program. In order to achieve my Eagle Scout rank I needed to plan and complete a project benefiting the community. I decided to help the band program at Lakota East by building a path of pavers from the band door to the sidewalk to A) cut off all dirt tracked in from marching band members who go through the grass and B) to alleviate Mr. Thomas‟ throat which constantly screams “Stay off the grass!”
The project is now completed as of June 26th, 2010. The old tree has been destroyed and in its place are two new trees. There is also a 63 foot long path of pavers that will last forever. Finally, new grass is being grown along the side of the path and in a dead area near the trees. Please don‟t walk on this area for a while.
The project was completed by me, my dad, and many Boy Scouts and took about 150 labor hours. It was funded by family and friends, the PTSO, and the Lakota Upbeat Club. A huge thanks goes out to all donations from businesses supplying the equipment as well as a huge thanks to the PTSO and Upbeat Club for their donations. For all those worrying about Lakota‟s budget crisis, rest assured no money was used by the Lakota School District to pay for this path. Finally, the project is open for use and was used early on by the Lakota Jazz Clinic last week and greatly appreciated. I hope all Lakota East band members enjoy their new path and best wishes for next year‟s marching band season.
Good Luck Thunderhawks,
Kyle Vanden Eynden
