LOCATION: Start out on Main Street at East
Tag Day is coming and we need your help!! We need lots of parents to drive. The driver’s job is to transport a small group to a neighborhood and monitor them as they go door to door. The driver will keep track of the money collected. If you can help, please sign up and indicate the number of passenger seat belts in your vehicle. Also indicate if you have a preferred neighborhood, we will try to accommodate this but cannot guarantee it. We try to place your child in your car, but this is not always possible. We also will need a small number of adults to help in the band room during the day.
Students, you may sign up with or without a partner. If signing up with a partner, sign up for a slot as yourself, then go back to the sign up as your partner. Please, do not sign up with more than one partner.
ALL STUDENTS MUST SIGN-UP BY 11:59PM ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3!!

All members of 1st & 2nd period Symphonic Bands wear black uniform pants and a white jacket and gentlemen in Symphonic Winds wear a tux. Measurements will be taken during class time, but ALL these students will need to come to East one evening to try on the uniform. The dates for these fitting nights have been set and sign ups will start taking place this week in class. Time slots will be every 15 minutes from 6 – 8 PM on the following evenings (five students can sign up in each time slot):
Monday, Sept 8 – Winds’ gentlemen only
Monday, Sept 15 – Symphonic Band students
Tuesday, Sept 16 – Symphonic Band students
Monday, Sept 22 – Symphonic Band students
Please discuss what time would be best with your student so they can choose a time that will work with your family’s schedule. The sign up sheets will be in the band room before the East Open House on Wed, 8/27.
Students will need to come to their fitting night dressed to try on the uniform over their clothes since we have limited changing room areas. Please wear soft, lightweight gym shorts or bike shorts, not the heavy, longer “basketball” style gym shorts (the marching band shorts are fine). Also no cargo-style or denim shorts or long pants of any kind. A t-shirt with sleeves should be worn to try on their jacket – no sleeveless, tank or camisole – style shirts please!
All Symphonic Band members and gentlemen in Symphonic Winds need to have a tux shirt with a pleated front and a wing-tip collar to wear with the uniform. Please make sure the collar is the stand up wing-tip collar, NOT a regular fold down collar. If you already have one please try it on and make sure it still fits.
Tux shirts may be purchased at Hobby Lobby – there is a store in Tri-County. There is a 40% off coupon on their website that may be used for online purchases or in the store (go to Weekly Offers to access the coupon to print out) or at tux stores, Men’s Warehouse and some department stores. More detailed information about purchasing the tux shirt is on the band website. They may also be purchased from the website formalfashionsinc.com. Don’t wait until too close to the Fall Concert on Oct 21 to get your shirt!
Students will also need crew-length or longer black socks (no low-cut styles) and black dress shoes – the socks and shoes used for marching band are fine to wear for concerts. Otherwise any black, closed-toe, low-heeled shoe is fine.
Ladies new to Symphonic Winds have been measured for dresses and these have already been ordered, along with the pearl necklace. A letter with details about the cost of the dress and pearls, hemming the dress and how to wear the uniform will be sent home soon.
We can still use lots of parents to help with these upcoming concert band fittings and with marching band uniforms during football games and at contests. If you are interested in working with the kids and helping them look their best before every performance please let me know.
Any questions please contact Carolyn Landers, firstname.lastname@example.org or 755-2440.]]>
Please remember when purchasing to get a pleated front and the wing-tip collar and not a regular fold-down collar.
In the past students have been able to purchase their tux shirts at Michael’s Craft stores. This is no longer the case since the entire chain no longer carries this item. Hobby Lobby stores do carry tux shirts. There is one located in Tri-County at 11711 Princeton Pike, Springdale, 45246. The phone # is 671-4310. The shirts may also be ordered online from HobbyLobby.com. The shirts come in sizes X-small up to 2X-large and cost $19.99. I spoke to a manager at the Tri-Co store and told her there may be a lot of Lakota East students purchasing tux shirts there so they are aware in order to keep them in stock. She said they get new stock every week, so if they are out of your size please let them know so they can order more. Store hours are 9 AM – 8 PM, Mon – Sat. They are closed on Sundays. Don’t wait until the last minute to get yours – the Fall Concert is Tuesday, October 21st.
There is a 40% off one item coupon on the website that can also be used in the store, which makes the cost of the shirt only $11.99. To access the coupon you need to go to Weekly Offers at the top of the home page and then you can print it out. You can also use it to order online. Go down to the blue menu bar and click on Wearables then go down the left-side menu bar and click on Tuxedo Shirts & Ties (it is the last item). The 40% off one item is at the top and you can click on it to add the code to your cart. Shipping cost is $5.95 and can take from 3-10 business days.
Tux shirts can also be purchased at tux stores, Mens’ Warehouse and department stores like Macy’s and JC Penneys. I’m sure you can also find them at other places online. The band orders tuxes and Winds’ dresses through Formal Fashions Inc and they have tux shirts also. Look under In Stock Items and order style 2181 – the unisex white wing-tip shirt. They are $12.50. The good thing is these come in many more sizes than at Hobby Lobby and may be better for taller or larger sized kids, the bad thing is the S&H is fairly expensive. If you get together with a few other people you can order several for the same shipping charge and save some money that way. www.formalfashionsinc.com

Is the cost of chaperone background check included in price?
Can I bring a non-chaperoning spouse? Siblings? What is their cost?
If I want to travel with the band, but use frequent flier miles (or pay for airfare on my own) to get there, what are costs for the remainder of the trip?
We are going to be a “follower” and go to Hollywood on our own. Where is the band staying and do we need to reserve our own rooms?
How do chaperones and other family members pay for their trip?
What are the deadlines for committing to the trip?
