ADDITIONAL MARCHING THUNDERHAWK ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Lakota East Marching Thunderhawks are invited to perform at the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawaii on Tuesday, November 25, 2008. The band is proudly being accompanied to and from Hawaii by Pearl Harbor Survivor, Mr. Joe Whitt and his wife Judy.

The Thunderhawks will also march in the 10th annual Waikiki Holiday Parade on the island of Oahu, Honolulu, Hawaii on November 28th, 2008.

Now in its tenth year, the Waikiki Holiday Parade commemorates Pearl Harbor Survivors at the anniversary of the attacks.

Thousands of spectators, residents and visitors gather annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving to watch this non-competitive parade, which hosts local bands, marching bands from the mainland, Pearl Harbor Survivors, service bands, military units, local officials, dignitaries and entertainers. The scenic parade route travels approximately 1.5 miles through Waikiki along the oceanfront of beautiful, torch-lit Kalakaua Avenue.

The Thunderhawks are honored and proud to be part of this historical tribute.

General Information about Contests

  • Class C:  300 or below
  • Class B:  301- 475
  • Class A:  476- 775

During an OMEA competition, adjudicators critique the bands’ performance in the following areas:

  • Music: (Assigned judges rate only the musical aspects of the group)
  • General Effect: (Assigned judges rate the band on the entire show package including music, marching, auxiliary and percussion contribution).
  • Visual Performance and Visual Effect: (Assigned judges rate the precision of the movement of the entire group and how the members move within the overall picture and development of form).
  • Percussion: (Assigned judge, on the field, rates the percussion section and how it relates to the musical ensemble.)
  • Field Commander: (Assigned judge, on the field, rates the direction of the band by the field commander(s).
  • Auxiliaries:  (Assigned judges rate the entire auxiliary unit including flags, rifles and dance line on the writing of the routine, the cleanliness of the work done by the group and their placement on the field.)
  • Timing and Penalties: This official will ensure that each ensemble conforms to the timing and field placement rules determined by OMEA. Bands that do not adhere to these rules may be assessed a penalty.
