Marching Band Camp – Chaperones Needed, Meetings, Packing List

Chaperones Needed

We are in serious need of male chaperones for marching band camp at Wright State University the week of August 14! Any time you can spare would be appreciated. If you can stay all week, one night, two nights — whatever you can spare would be greatly appreciated. Even if you're able to come after work, spend the night and then return to your job the next day, the help is desperately needed. It's also a good time! I promise.

Contact Barb Wilson at bawilson1209@gmail.com right away with the days and/or night you are available.

If you are already planning to stay at band camp as a chaperone, but haven't contacted Barb Wilson, please do so. We will need to provide Wright State with a final count soon.

Wondering What to Pack for Band Camp?

Recommended packing lists for girls and guys can be found at the bottom of this post. All meals are provided, so please don't have your students load up on food for the dorms. If there are dietary restrictions, please email Barb WIlson at bawilson1209@gmail.com.

Pre-Camp To Do's

During pre-camp please make sure you have submitted all the necessary forms and a picture. There will be a box in the band room where forms can be deposited. All medication forms need to be signed by a doctor, so please review the forms checklist at lakotaeastbands.org.

Also, please bring soft drinks and snacks to be shared by all band members during our week at Wright State. Each student is asked to contribute one 24-pack of pop and one packaged snack item. Other wish list items for band camp: plastic cups, large containers of powdered drink mix, paper towels, and napkins. These items can be left in a designated location in the band room.

Students will sign up for band room mates by grade level during the first week of band camp. Mr. Thomas will announce.

Band Camp Meetings

Band Camp chaperones are asked to attend a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on August 10 at Neidermann Farm. Chaperones will receive their assignments and get some sage advice of those who have experienced band camp as a chaperone before.

If you are new to Marching Band, we encourage you to attend a new parent band camp meeting at 7:30 p.m. on August 10 at Neiderman Farm in Liberty Township. This is a great time to get all the facts about your students' week away at band camp and what they really need to bring with them. Please plan to attend.

Upbeat Club Meeting moved to July 28th

The club voted at the last meeting to have the July 21st meeting moved to the 28th. This was due to availability of the band directors. Unfortunately, some emails have gone out stating that there is a meeting tonight. Please make note that the Upbeat Club meeting will be on the 28th.

Don't forget that EVERYONE is invited. If you have an idea or suggestion, or would like to help out in some way, come to the meeting and introduce yourself. Our sole focus is on helping the bands at Lakota East and the schools that feed into the high school.

Marching Band Show Shirt Design – Ideas Needed!

Hello All!

With all the craziness of the end of the school year, we never collected student input for the show shirt design.

We need ideas for the shirt.  Remember the show is "…To The Nines!". (The title has several meanings:  Reaching to the highest level possible; dressed to the nines; sophisticated; A sailing ship with all of its' sails out; The ninth symphonies etc..,)

The design must fit in a 4" x 4" area.

When designing an emblem remember simplicity is best as small detail gets lost on a shirt.

Because of the cost, we are limiting the colors to black, white and silver (but if you have an idea that involves some color, we can explore the possibilities).

We'll need artwork for under the marching band schedule on the back of the shirt as well.

the artwork doesn't need to be created in a computer program, you can sketch it out as well.  just scan and send.

We need your designs by August 1 (the first day of pre-camp) in order to have the shirts ready for the end of band camp.

Email your designs to me (pdf's work best) as soon as you can.

We certainly appreciate your input to make OUR band the best it can be.

Looking forward to seeing your great designs!

Mr. Thomas
