Join us for the Shamrock Shuffle 10k run / 5k walk Downtown West Chester

Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 12 at 8:30am. Join us for the Shamrock Shuffle 10K run/5K walk in downtown West Chester. For every 25 adults to register for our team (two students equal one adult), then we will receive $250 for the Upbeat Club. They will also be awarding another $250 for the team with the most recognizable and enthusiastic spectators. If you don’t want to walk or run, bring out your voices and your band instruments! With a little music, we can surely “run away” with the competition!

Remember, you don’t have to be a runner to participate. Walkers can register for the 5K and we’ll need plenty of spectators to keep us moving forward! Register at www.theshamrockshuffle.com under our team name, “Lakota East Upbeat Club.” More information will follow via email and Upbeat Notes leading up to the race. You’ll receive a T-shirt and be served breakfast (for everyone) and beer (for those 21 and older), courtesy of The Dingle House Pub.

Here is a summary of reductions to the band program from the presentation at Lakota East -

- Elimination of 6th grade band
- Elimination of band team teaching & jazz band for Jr High
- No jazz band for 9th & 10th grade

There is a Community Outreach/Budget Reductions Questionnaire on the Lakota Schools website you may complete to voice your opinions.

You may also direct comments to your school board members.

It is proposed to vote on these budget reductions at the School Board meeting this Monday, Feb 28, 2011, so if you have concerns/comments time is of the essence.

Schedules and Maps for Contest at Fairfield HS March 11-12

Below are two links with information regarding the contest at Fairfield High School. The dates are March 11, 2011 and March 12, 2011. Don’t forget that all percussionists are to load equipment after school on March 11, 2011.

Participation is mandatory for all students at Large Group Contests.  We need EVERY STUDENT to be successful.  At the high school level there is the added component of Sight-Reading.  After we perform on stage we will go to the band room and sight-read a piece of music for a judge.  Spectators are not permitted in the sight-reading room.

Errors on Band/Jazz Scheduling Handout

Dear Parents,

It has been brought to the attention of our instrumental music staff that there are errors on the recently distributed handout entitled, “Making Band/Jazz Band ‘Fit’ Into Your Schedule”.  Please disregard the handout.  We will be in touch next week with accurate information that corrects the errors.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
