A 2010 Space Odyssey!!

After hours and hours of rehearsal throughout the week at Wright State University, the Lakota Marching Thunderhawks brought their pre-game show and another awesome half-time show to life.  This was a week of hard work and smooth sailing – lots and lots of practice, perfect weather, high expectations, and a group of students that rose to every occasion!  Even in their free time, they were out playing basketball and playing guitar or cards, or just hanging out together.  It made our job easy!  (We are currently accepting sign-ups for next year’s chaperones!!).

We would like to thank everyone who helped us with band camp this year.

  • Thanks to the students, directors, and college staff for a great pre-game and half-time show performance on the Friday night of band camp.  Your week of hard work certainly paid off.
  • Thanks to Cathie Lower, our band nurse, for all she did throughout the week to take good care of the band members!
  • Thanks to all of the chaperones – Ann Kilyk, Laura Kavalauskas, Sherri Lipscomb, Renata Koebbe, Lori Dickinson, Laurie McKenna, Michelle Manley, Emily Ball, Cathie Lower, Barb Wilson, Suzanne Roy, Donna Carr, Jill Cleaves, Jami Dyess, Sally Britton, Tim Elliott, Bob Meyer, Bill Roy, Ted Wilson, Jeff Brauns, Jennifer Rolfe, Sam Ball, Frank Joa, Mike Dawson, Mike Riemen, Matt McNally, Michael Dudley, Bob Niederman, Dan Bartels, Mark Etterling, and Karen Meese.  Without you there would be no band camp.  I hope you found it as enjoyable as I did.
  • A huge thanks to Bob Meyer, Sam Ball, Dan Bartels, and Tim Elliott for all you did managing the pit instruments, ice/water/cups, etc throughout the week.
  • Thanks to Frank Joa, Ted Wilson, and Mike Dawson for capturing the moment each and every day with thousands of pictures and tons of video (be sure to visit SmugMug – the link is on the band website)
  • Thanks to Frank Joa for taking all of the photo button photos
  • Thanks to Leslie Griffin for coordinating the photo button assembly operation and thanks to all who helped in that assembly process – no small feat with 195 marching band members times 2 buttons each.  Be sure to wear your student’s button to all of the games and competitions!!
  • Thanks to all of the dance chaperones – band camp chaperones plus Debbie McPhillips, Marge Melick, and Rachael Engel Bowling.  The students had a great time dancing and singing karaoke!  We certainly have a multi-talented group.  I don’t think I’ve ever heard such an interesting rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody – one I won’t soon forget!!
  • Thanks to everyone who helped with check-in and check-out – Jen Prather, Kemmie and Park Burrets, Bill Roy, Cathy Elliott, Laurie McKenna, Leslie Griffin, Jennifer Samuels, Susan and Guy Shrake, Loraine Henderson, Jennifer Parks, Jenny Vanden Eynden, Jody Sasthav, Scott Bowling, Kim Russo, Jennifer Moak, Susan Joa, Diane Dew, Carolyn Landers, and Kerrie Smith.  That was a huge job!
  • Thanks to all of you who helped with serving Subway, KFC, City Barbeque, and pizza (and the clean-up afterwards) and helped in other ways during the week.  Another huge job that we couldn’t have done without you!
  • Thanks to Ann Kilyk, our LEUC President, for stepping up to help wherever she was needed throughout the week!
  • Thanks to Tim Elliott, Bob Meyer, Sam and Emily Ball, Dan Bartels, Bill Roy, Mark Etterling, and Mike Dawson for all of their work on getting the Lakota Marching Thunderhawks trailer and golf cart trailer ready for the 2010 season.
  • Thanks to the Niedermans for hosting our marching band parent and chaperone meetings.
  • Thanks to Lori Dickinson for being our cookie coordinator and to all of you who sent in cookies, snacks, and pop.

If your student left anything behind at band camp, you will have to contact Wright State University directly.  Unfortunately, everything they find goes into a general Lost and Found on campus.

Thanks again to everyone involved.  We appreciate it very much.
